Electronic superhighway 2016 -1966 at the Whitechapel gallery explores the history between art and the Internet at the exhibition. The exhibition goes through fifty years of history charting some of the major innovations between the art and the Internet. The exhibition shows this by starting with recent art works the exhibition then takes the viewer back in time through the decades.
Jonas Lund VIP (Viewer Improved Painting) 2014
Jonas Lund’s VIP (Viewer Improved Painting) consists of two screens and gaze tracker camera reading where the viewer is looking at, changing the image depending on where they are looking, creating their own postmodern composition.
This work is dependent on the viewers participation and crucaul to its purpose as a “viewer improved painting”
Over time the peice changes as multiple viewers look at the works each changing its apperance. everyone has a unique expeiance with the work, they first see it as a unique “painting” and leave it as a diffrent unique “painting”,a intervrntion that they themself created with their gaze.
The changes that the viewers have made are all stored on a database to be used in the next “iteration” of the work. Lund can accsess this data and use it to create art, simmilllar to survailance or data mining that occurs through everyday internet use. Lund is using readymade data that his audiance at the whitechapel gallery has made.
Oliver Laric questions authenticity and originality and looking at “the copy,the rip-off and the remix”
The work is a repoduction of a badly photoshoped image released by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards showing four missiles being launced instead of one. after media coverage people picked up on the mistakes leading to humorous responses on social media. Laric repoduced a series of 10 airbrushed paintings taken from the social media response, this highlights both the postmodern concept of Authenticity and originality
Although Laric s the author of the artwork it is taken from annonymous ‘authors’ taken from the internet

A social sculpture two seats that are close together forces whoever sits in them to touch knees and look at each other forcing whoever is is in the seats to interact with each other inspired by “furnishings of busses and cheap eateries”
Lynne Hershman Leeson Lorna 1979-82 Interactive video – DVD
You walked into Lorna’s apartment that was set up with all her own belongings replicating her own apartment in the DVD film with The DVD remote control you could sit and watch what was going on in the apartment and you could select objects that would change what is happening in the video.
